Application of Porous Parts
Porous polymer parts are mainly used to filtrate and separate fluid flows from impurities. These filters, with changeable hole sizes from 1 to 200 microns depending on the application, the size of the impurities, and the uniform distribution of the holes, remove and separate the impurities from the fluid flows and ensure a clean and pure flow.
In some material storage tanks, porous parts and filters discharge accumulated gases from evaporation and prevent explosions caused by high pressure. In addition to releasing these gases, they prevent the entry of impurities, dust, and even flames and sparks from the environment to the tank. A clear example of this application is the existence of vent and drain filters in car batteries, industrial batteries, and fuel storage tanks.
In this application, the porous filter allows air or other gases to pass through it, but as soon as the liquid comes into contact with it, it becomes blocked and obstructs the passage or overflow of the liquid and stops the flow. This type of filter is used in products such as operating room suction bag filters and vacuum therapy devices.
Porous parts can hold a certain amount of liquid in their holes and porosity and release the flow of these liquids at a specific rate and amount (according to the size of the voids and porosity) when in contact with the surfaces. For example, the tip of the magic pen absorbs the ink from the bottom source of the pen and flows on it when it comes into contact with the paper.
Like a wick, porous parts can absorb liquid from a specific source in its holes and porosity and release it in another fluid medium, such as air, at a controlled and constant rate. These parts are used in products such as air fresheners and some insecticides.
Porous parts are used to inject air or gas into liquids in a controlled manner and increase the contact surface between gas and liquid for more and better dissolution. This way, the gas passes through their holes and spreads as tiny bubbles in the liquid. For example, diffusers for fermentation tanks, aquariums, and oxygen generators work with this function.
